Apple TV. Worth $100?
My name is Pastor John W. Brown and I am a geek! I try out just about every new iPad, iPhone, Android, Google Apps (and Plus) program/gadget/thing – that tickles my interest. I end up deleting a lot of stuff and keeping only what matters the most to me. I admit it – I love technology! I am facinated by the creative minds that are able to take ides and concepts and make them a reality.
When my sons were very young I realized that their’s would be a computer world that I knew nothing about. I bought a Vic 20 (remember those?) and started learning a little programming. We would work for days inputting code just so the “computer” could make a “ding” sound! It was fun for all of us. The Vic 20 gave way to the Commodore 64, which gave way to IBM PC and as they say, “The rest is history.”
I just purchased my first Apple TV. I hesitated for some time because I have 2 Xbox 360′s in the house. Years ago my sons and I ran a fairly popular game server called “The Daggers” for the game Counter Strike. When they all made the move to Xbox – I could never get the hang of the controller to develop the skills I had on the PC – so I got left behind. The 360′s in the house are extenders for my Media Center. They get little to no game use. But since I already owned those devices – I couldn’t see the advantage of the Apple TV. I was mistaken!
Keep in mind I have only owned the Apple TV for a few days but this is what I have discovered. With a $7.00 program called Remote Potato (clever huh?) – I can stream the media that I have on my computer, straight to my TV! There are no glitches even at 720p. I simply pull up whatever show I want to watch on my iPad or my wife’s iPhone – hit play – transfer it through AirPlay to my Apple TV and there it is in HD quality.
I am thinking about selling my 360′s! I have been trying to find reasons not to, but so far I have not. I do Facetime on my iPad so there is no longer a need for the Video Chat function. The Apple TV has Netflix and YouTube and rentable movies for .99 cents though iTunes.
So – since I have these 360′s already paid for and sitting in my home – convince me why I should keep them. I don’t want to sell them – then wish I had them later because there was something that I forgot in my evaluation.
